Burda quite often offers one pattern in two or three incarnations. But sometimes the model is so good and versatile that such a proposal is not satisfactory.

A laconic cut dress from Burda 4/2016 is a prime example. The model is presented in three versions, each of which is good in its own way:

A pattern of a slightly flared silhouette, but still closer to the straight cut. As you can see, the length of the model can be changed to any value.

Features patterns

✂ The pattern matches the size. No adjustments are required, except for individual ones. In my case, this is, as always, a chest tuck.

✂ In patterns with a long sleeve of standard sizes, I almost always increase the length of the sleeve by 3-5 cm, because ideally the length of the sleeve suits me only in patterns for tall. In this model, this was not necessary.

✂ The armhole is shallow, ideal for a dress and blouse, but also for a tunic.

✂ The sleeve width in any length suggested by the magazine looks great.

✂ The width of the shelf and back is sufficient. Cuts are provided rather because of the seasonality of the model, in addition, they add a touch of playfulness to the image.

✂ The neckline is small, but its inconvenience more than compensates for the section, the depth of which can be increased or decreased if desired.

You can also make the neckline more open by abandoning the cut.

✂ The pattern is quite simple and does not cause any difficulty in sewing. It’s possible that only such a detail as a section bar is slightly alarming, but from our master class you will learn all the details on how to properly process a section with a strip and tame this elegant part.

✂ The consumption of fabric depends on what you plan to sew and will add up to the length of the product plus the length of the sleeve.

The shelf and backrest easily fit into one length, provided that the width of the fabric is 140 cm.

What to sew: a blouse, dress or tunic?

The choice is yours! Any selected model will look great. I opted for tunics. But I'm sure that a blouse will also appear.

Silk Chiffon Tunic

For a very long time I could not decide on the model, since the fabric was a half coupon. A preliminary layout of different patterns on the fabric came to the rescue. The dress pattern with cuts was perfect.

How to fit a pattern on fabric

✂ I changed the neck of the product at the cutting stage - deepened by a couple of centimeters from the back and the shelf and slightly increased in width.

✂ The length of the tunic is just below the knee.

✂ I made cuts higher than in the original pattern so that you can wear a tunic with a swimsuit and shorts.

✂ All seams in the product are French.

✂ The neckline is finished with a narrow slanting inlay from the main fabric.

✂ Open sections of high sections are processed by a role seam on an overlock.

Tunic made of thin cotton cambric

When I chose the fabric, I already knew that I would sew a tunic from it according to the specified pattern, but a long version and with a deep neckline.

✂ The fabric is loose and loose. Here it was important not to be mistaken with the choice of needles, threads for basting and methods of processing seams and sections. And, of course, not to make mistakes, since such a delicate fabric would not tolerate ripping. Therefore, at certain stages of sewing, instead of basting, she used tailor pins for silk. They are very thin, long, sharp and do not damage the fabric at all.

✂ After the batista tried to perform the original processing on the patch, as suggested in the magazine and was unsatisfied with the result, I opted for processing a straight neckline section with a simple grinder:

Direct neckline treatment

✂ For thin and loose fabric I will not recommend the original treatment, but for blouse and dress fabric - it will be ideal to process the cut with a bar.

Throat cut processing

✂ All seams are French. Open sections of high sections are processed by a role seam on an overlock. How to combine these two types of processing at once in one product, or rather it will be said in one seam, read in my recent master class on our site:

How to make cuts in a product with french seams

✂ The tunic turned out to be ankle-length. Very light and airy.

✂ Both tunics are stitched without pockets.

What fabrics to sew

For this pattern, all types of light blouse and dress fabrics are suitable:

✽ Silk

✽ Chiffon

✽ Batiste

✽ Muslin

✽ Viscose

✽ Staple

✽ Cotton lace

✽ Coupon fabrics

This model will accept any of the listed fabrics without persuasion and whims. The most important thing is to choose all the necessary accessories for sewing correctly and, depending on the fabric, choose the right method of processing seams and sections of the product.

Easy sewing and beautiful new things!
