Our heroine works as a business consultant, and considers sewing to be her true passion.

About the page author

Our heroine today is a fairly popular person in the online sewing community, while she claims that she never specifically sought to do so. She did not dream, by her own admission, of creating patterns of her own models for sale - but now she does it. But it turned out so ...

“Sewing is not my job: I have a job that I like,” says Blandin. “I’m a consultant at a major consulting agency, helping companies determine strategies. I work a lot and do it with pleasure. But I also need creativity! It is necessary for my hands and brain, like breathing. I create when I write and sew. When I write, I free my mind. And when I sew, all other thoughts go away, I don’t think - I do.

I always sewed as I remember. When I was little, I watched my grandmother, a teacher of cutting and sewing, when she sewed clothes for herself. I really couldn’t study then - I was 5 or 6 years old - but, as I understand now, I simply absorbed all this knowledge. "According to Blandin, her grandmother didn’t use ready-made patterns, building them was her work. And our heroine herself, subsequently starting to create clothes for herself, she also came up with models and made patterns on her own.

Blandin says that she started an Instagram account just to share her work with the sewing community. But once under one of her photos she saw, instead of the usual dozens of likes, as many as 700. "People asked me which pattern I sewed the dress from this photo," she recalls. "I came up with my models, but I didn’t sell the patterns, and those those who liked my dresses so much couldn’t sew the same for themselves. " For some time, Blandin resisted, not wanting to engage in patterns for sale: "I repeated: I used to sew for myself, I know my own characteristics and standards by heart, I never made patterns for anyone but myself!". But the requests continued to come from all over the world, and she gave up: "I felt: if I did not, I would surely regret it."

Our heroine says that she had to buy special complex programs and learn how to work with them. It also turned out that in addition to patterns, you need to make pictures for instructions, think about digitization, and so on - all this turned out to be a rather difficult undertaking. Now, continuing to sew for herself, she also sells her patterns, but at the same time claims that she does not want to leave the main work. “Sewing is for me passion, not work! When I turn my passion into work, it once ceases to be passion to become ... work,” says Blandin.
