The change of seasons entails a change of wardrobe: soon the winter outerwear and shoes will be time to send for storage. How to properly prepare winter clothes and how to store fur coats, coats, down jackets, shoes and accessories so that they meet the next season in the best possible way - a selection of tips.

How to prepare for storage and store fur coats and sheepskin coats

1. Cleaning

It is difficult to thoroughly clean things from fur, leather, and suede at home. The best option is to use dry cleaning services.

2. Airing

After cleaning, ventilate a couple of days before cleaning. Hang a fur coat or sheepskin coat on your shoulders and let it hang in a place where the air circulates well, but there is no direct sunlight (the last note for light fur is especially important: it can change color from the sun to a yellow tint).

3. Storage

Keep fur coats and sheepskin coats on a hanger in special non-woven covers. Take care of moth protection. You can find special anti-mole covers. You can use a sachet, for example, with lavender: put them under the collar and in your pockets, plus - place them in the closet where things are stored.

Do not store fur items in plastic and vacuum cases: without air, they deteriorate.

The optimal conditions for storing fur coats and sheepskin coats are 8–9 degrees Celsius, darkness, and the possibility of ventilation. It is not always possible to observe such conditions at home. Try to find the coolest and darkest corner of a cabinet or dressing room for a fur coat or use the services for summer storage of fur coats.

How to prepare for storage and store faux fur coats

1. Cleaning or washing

Some types of faux fur can be washed, others not. What to do with the purchased "cheburashka", prompts a label on things. If you sewed a thing yourself and there are no clear recommendations for caring for the material, perhaps you should not risk it: if the fur coat is very dirty, hand it in for dry cleaning.

It is worthwhile to wash only faux fur with a dense short pile on its own, long when washing can become confused and lose its appearance. If you decide to wash the fur coat from faux fur, do it manually or in the car in the delicate washing mode and always at a temperature of no higher than 30 degrees. For longer than 20-30 minutes, it is better not to wash artificial fur in the machine. In the car it is better not to squeeze the coat, but to do it with your hands, without twisting. Then you have to absorb water from the fur coat several times with towels. When the water stops flowing and the fur becomes wet rather than moist, hang the fur coat on a hanger, smooth the fur with your hands and dry it in a well-ventilated place without direct sunlight. After complete drying, comb the pile with a metal comb with rare teeth.

2. Storage

Only store fully dried cheburashka for storage. Faux fur coats are best stored not folded, but on a suitable hanger. The cover is preferably breathable (not polyethylene, not vacuum).

How to prepare for storage and store a coat

1. Cleaning

Most often, a coat, especially from wool, is not recommended to be washed. Use dry cleaning services.

2. Airing

As in the case of a fur coat, after cleaning the coat should be aired, allowing it to hang for a couple of days in a cool place with good ventilation without direct sunlight.

3. Storage

Choose a coat hanger for the coat size: storage on an unsuitable hanger can deform a thing. Fasten the coat with buttons, straighten, put on a breathable cover on top.For things made of natural wool, protection from moths is just as important as in the case of fur coats: use purchased or homemade products. Try not to hang the coat too tight so that things do not warp or crumple, and do not use vacuum and plastic covers. Of course, do not store your coat in piles when folded.

How to prepare for storage and store down jackets and jackets

1. Cleaning / washing + drying

Look at the jacket or down jacket label. If washing is prohibited, it is better not to risk it and take the item to dry cleaning (after dry cleaning, ventilate the down jacket). If washing is possible, wash the item in accordance with the recommendations on the label. Do not forget to remove the furry edge, check for forgotten little things in pockets and holes (the filler can come out through them), fasten all buttons and zippers and turn the down jacket inside out.

If the jacket has a special impregnation or is sewn from a membrane fabric, wash it with special means. For items with fluff, there are also special laundry detergents. Wash down jackets with washing balls / balls. They should also be used to dry the down jacket in a tumble dryer (by the way, if you don’t have one, you can use the self-service laundry services - after machine drying the down in the down jacket becomes especially fluffy and voluminous).

If you are drying a jacket or down jacket at home, do not use a hair dryer, avoid direct sunlight and the vicinity of heating appliances. In some cases, after drying, you will have to beat the fluff in the down jacket with your hands.

2. Storage

Before you send the thing for storage, make sure that the fluff or other filler is properly dry (otherwise it can deteriorate and get an unpleasant smell during the winter). Ideally, things with a filler, especially natural down, should be stored like a coat: on a suitably sized shoulders, in a buttoned-up form, in a breathing cover, hanging in a dark, cool place. Manufacturers do not recommend using vacuum and plastic bags for storing fluff: fluff, like other natural materials, must breathe. Things on sintepon / sintepuha / holofiber are not so picky, but they should not be packed too hard in vacuum bags: it is better to remove a maximum of 50 percent of air from the bag.
