Denim shorts can be decorated with fabric, lace, braid, painted with paints or whitened in ombre style, “beat” by adding holes to them, or put colorful patches.

1. Shorts with braid on the sides and a chain on your pocket: a master class

Photo: brit.co

The result of this decor will depend primarily on what kind of braid you choose. With colored braid, as in this case, the shorts will turn out brighter, and with pastel-colored braid - more calm.

You will need:

- denim shorts,

- braid

- a piece of a thick chain,

- rivets and narrow pliers for fixing them (option - metal decor, which is glued to the fabric, and glue for it),

- threads (thin and thick, like "iris") and suitable needles,

- sewing machine,

- scissors.

1. Attach the braid to the side seam of the shorts and measure the desired length by adding a couple of centimeters to the allowances (photo 1).

2. Stitch one of the edges of the braid to the shorts, right next to the beginning of the shorts belt, as shown in photo 2-3.

3. Sew the braid on both sides manually with hidden stitches along the side seam (photo 4). If the bottom of your shorts is finished, it is better to tuck the bottom edge of the braid and hem it, if not, you can leave the edge of the braid unprocessed.

4. Sew the chain to your pocket with thick colored threads (photo 1-2).

5. Install the metal decor on your pocket, as shown in photo 3-4. (In addition to rivets, you can sew metal rings on your pocket or glue rhinestones). Done!

2. Shorts with an insert of colored fabric: a master class

Photo: blog.freepeople.com

In this way, you can not only decorate, but also reanimate shorts - for example, hide a stain or the consequences of an unsuccessful decor.

You will need:

- denim shorts,

- a flap of suitable fabric,

- scissors

- pins, threads, needle for hand sewing.

Photo: blog.freepeople.com

1. Start by cutting the flap to the right size. To prevent the fabric from moving, pin it to the shorts with pins.

2. You can sew fabric to shorts, having twisted its edges - then fabric will not crumble. You don’t even have to process the edges of the fabric in order to achieve the “fringe” effect - for this, do not tuck the fabric, but sew on it, stepping back a little from the edge.

3. Focus on the side, step, front middle seams of the shorts on the sides, on top - on the stitching of the pocket. If your bottom shorts are not finished, you can don’t sew on the bottom edge. Sew the fabric especially close to the zipper. Here it is better to tuck the edge so that it does not fall into the clasp. Done!

3. “Broken” shorts: master class

Photo: brit.co

Jeans with "artistic" scuffs turning into holes are also called a "bat." This jeans decor was invented by Renzo Rosso, founder of Diesel. More precisely, this “beatiness” at first came to him by chance, but Rosso, quickly finding his bearings, announced this as a new trend. Tattered, or broken jeans (and shorts) are in fashion to this day. Make them easy.

You will need:

- denim shorts,

- scissors

- narrow pliers (tweezers are also suitable),

- grater (for example, a mini-grater for spices is used here, but it will fit a regular size).

1. Use scissors to make several cuts on the shorts (photo 1).

2. Pull the longitudinal threads of the fabric with narrow pliers or tweezers (photo 2, 3, 4).

3. Time to work with a grater. Rub it with a cloth until you achieve the desired effect. Done!

Photo: blog.freepeople.com

A good option at the same time to "patch up" too "broken" shorts, while adding originality to them. How to make scuffs and holes, see the master class above.

You will need:

- denim shorts with scuffs and holes,

- a suitable flap of fabric (better x / b, fabrics with a small floral print look especially good together with denim),

- threads and needle for hand sewing,

- a pair of pins.

Photo: blog.freepeople.com

1. Fold the shorts on the work surface and put a flap of colored fabric from the inside under the front part of the leg with holes so that the front side of it can be seen through the scuffs. Pin in several places.

2. Start sewing the fabric on the shorts by hand. You don’t have to worry too much about the accuracy of the stitches - this decor was originally designed to be slightly sloppy.

3. Sew the fabric to the shorts both at the edges of the holes and scuffs, and next to it.

4. The edge of the color flap can be left looking out from under the leg of the shorts. Cut the rest of the non-sewn edges of the flap from the inside. Done.

So you can not only decorate ordinary shorts, but also increase their size, if necessary. For decor, it is better to use cotton more tightly, but if the shorts are sewn from thin denim, a not very dense fabric is also suitable. By the way, in the same way you can expand the shorts, using a piece of denim.

You will need:

- denim shorts,

- a flap of suitable fabric and wide lace,

- sewing machine,

- scissors

- pins, threads, needle.

1. Cut the shorts at the side seams as shown in the photo. Cut out two colored pieces of colored fabric of the desired length and width (see photo).

2. Process the upper edges of the side parts made of colored fabric on an overlock or zigzag. Sew side pieces over the side seams of the shorts. If desired, lace can be sewn on the bottom of colored parts. To make the seams stronger, they can be stitched.

Photo: mrkate.com

The "predatory" print is one of the trends of the season. Why not color the leopard shorts?

You will need:

- denim shorts,

- fabric paint (if you want to change the color of the shorts beforehand, the necessary liquid water-soluble paint, for printing - 2 types of acrylic for fabric),

- a brush.

1. If you want to change the color of denim, as in this case, you need to do this before applying the print. In this example, a red liquid dye for the fabric is taken - it must be diluted in water, adding salt, and soaked in a solution of shorts, and then rinsed. Use liquid or dry dye and proceed according to the instructions on the package. Dry the painted shorts.

2. Now you can start to print. Choose two colors for your taste. In this version, yellow and dark blue.

Photo: mrkate.com

3. Spread a few spots on the shorts with yellow paint, first large, then smaller. When the paint dries a little, add a pattern of blue paint to the yellow spots as shown in the photo. Do not try to make the spots geometrically correct and too neat - improvise. When the work is finished, dry the shorts well. Some paints need to be ironed to fix.
